NARD Declares Industrial Dispute, Gives FG Four Weeks to Meet Demands or Face Nationwide Strike
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared an industrial dispute with the Federal Government, extending its ultimatum by four weeks and warning that a nationwide strike could begin if outstanding demands remain unresolved.
The doctors are demanding the immediate release of the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), payment of salary and allowance arrears, implementation of the revised CONMESS salary structure, improved welfare, and stronger protection for healthcare workers.

While acknowledging progress in tackling workplace violence and improving doctors’ welfare in some states, NARD said delays in implementing key agreements have become unacceptable. The association will review the government’s compliance at its July 2026 NEC meeting in Gombe before deciding its next line of action.
