Still Playing, Still Learning: Taiwo Awoniyi Earns PFA Sport Directorship Diploma
Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi has added an academic milestone to his football career, graduating from the PFA Business School with a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Football Sport Directorship, achieved with Merit.
Awoniyi celebrated the achievement in a social media post, sharing photographs from his graduation ceremony and describing it as another proud moment away from the pitch.
“Still playing. Still learning. The journey continues,” the striker wrote.
The qualification is particularly notable because Awoniyi has pursued it while continuing his professional playing career.
Preparing For Life Beyond The Pitch
The PFA Business School’s Global Football Sport Directorship programme is designed to prepare current and former players and football professionals for roles in the management and sporting leadership of football clubs. The programme covers areas including sporting strategy, resources, leadership and the complex responsibilities of modern sporting directors.
For professional players, qualifications of this kind can provide a pathway into the football industry beyond their playing careers.
The PFA has specifically positioned its business school as a way of helping players develop new skills and prepare for future career opportunities within football.
Awoniyi’s graduation therefore represents more than a ceremonial achievement. It reflects an effort to build knowledge in an area of the game that could become relevant to his future after his playing days.
A Football Career Still In Progress
Awoniyi remains an active professional footballer.
Current 2026-27 records show him playing for Coventry City, following his spell with Nottingham Forest. He has already featured for Coventry during the new Premier League campaign.
That makes the timing of his qualification significant: rather than waiting until retirement to consider his next career step, Awoniyi has been developing his football-management knowledge alongside his responsibilities as a player.
The PFA Business School says its sport directorship programme is aimed at giving participants specialist knowledge of the sporting department of a football club and an understanding of strategies needed to manage sporting projects and resources.
