US Congressman Riley Moore Warns Against Separatist Agitation in Nigeria, Says It Endangers Christians
American lawmaker Riley Moore has cautioned that strengthening separatist movements in Nigeria would worsen insecurity and place Christian communities at greater risk.
Moore, who visited Nigeria in December 2025 on a fact-finding mission, met with National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, and religious leaders to assess the impact of violence on Christians. He also visited internally displaced persons (IDPs) and humanitarian groups in Benue, gaining first-hand insight into the crisis.

In a statement, Moore stressed that calls to divide Nigeria did not feature in his discussions, warning that separatist agitation would embolden terrorists and destabilize the country. He reaffirmed his commitment to protecting Christians and all Nigerians affected by extremist violence, noting that the United States and Nigeria have entered a new security cooperation agreement to strengthen bilateral efforts against terrorism.
