Super Falcons Honoured with National Awards, Cash & Homes After Historic 10th WAFCON Title Win
President Bola Tinubu has bestowed one of Nigeria’s highest national honours—the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON)—on the Super Falcons, following their dramatic and record-breaking 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph in Morocco.
During a special reception at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Tinubu applauded the team’s resilience and unity, announcing a generous reward package that includes ₦100 million in cash for each of the 24 players, a three-bedroom apartment for every team member, and ₦50 million for each of the 11-man technical crew.

A Nation Grateful: Tinubu Applauds Falcons’ Unyielding Spirit
“I have received this trophy on behalf of all Nigerians,” Tinubu said. “You have reignited the Nigerian spirit—unyielding, proud, and victorious.” He praised the team for their courage, especially in the comeback victory against Morocco in the final, calling them “a beacon of hope for future generations, especially young girls.”
The President also highlighted the administration’s commitment to supporting women’s football and sports development nationwide.
From Heroines to History-Makers
The Super Falcons’ win on Saturday, July 26, 2025, was nothing short of legendary. Playing at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, the Nigerian women came from 2–0 down to defeat host nation Morocco 3–2, lifting their 10th WAFCON trophy and reinforcing their dominance in African women’s football.
Goals from Folashade Ijamilusi, Esther Okoronkwo, and Jennifer Echegini sealed the epic turnaround, sending Nigerian fans worldwide into a frenzy.
Falcons Receive Rousing Welcome
On their return home on Monday, July 28, the Falcons were welcomed by cheering fans and top government officials at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, including First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Minister for Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and Minister of Culture and Tourism Hanatu Musawa.
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum, led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, also awarded ₦10 million each to the players and technical team.

Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, emotional yet proud, expressed gratitude on behalf of the squad. “This trophy is for all Nigerians—especially the young girls who dare to dream. We want to be the best women’s team in the world, and this is just the beginning.”
Ajibade also called for increased investment in women’s football and grassroots development.
