Super Eagles B Target Victory Over Zanzibar in Final Tune-Up Ahead of CHAN 2025 Opener
As the countdown begins to the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN 2025), Nigeria’s Super Eagles B are set to face hosts Zanzibar in their second international friendly match on Thursday, aiming to fine-tune their strategy ahead of a crucial Group D opener against defending champions Senegal.
The encounter, which takes place once again at the Mau Stadium in Zanzibar, is part of a two-game series designed to build match sharpness and tactical chemistry for the home-based Eagles. Monday’s first match ended in a frustrating 0-0 draw, despite Nigeria’s overwhelming dominance in possession, goal attempts, and territory.
The Nigerian team—silver medallists in 2018 and bronze winners in 2014—showed flashes of brilliance in their opening game. Standout performances came from Adedayo Olamilekan, Hadi Haruna, Sikiru Alimi, and Harrison Tochukwu, with goalkeeper Ozoemena Ani anchoring the defense. Also on the pitch were Nduka Junior, Leonard Ngenge, Abdulrafiu Taiwo, Sodiq Ismaila, Ijoma Anthony, Akanni Qudus, Godwin Obaje, and others, showcasing Nigeria’s depth and bench strength.
With lessons learned from Monday’s stalemate, the Super Eagles B will be eager to convert dominance into goals and build momentum heading into the CHAN 2025 tournament opener on Saturday, August 10, at the 15,000-capacity Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.

As the Super Eagles B aim for another deep run in the tournament, Thursday’s friendly will be critical in finalizing formations, solidifying team chemistry, and igniting the competitive fire needed to challenge for Nigeria’s first-ever CHAN title.
