Society of Nigerian Broadcasters Ogun Chapter Urges NBC to Sanction 32FM Ibadan for Obscene Broadcast

The Society of Nigerian Broadcasters (SNB) Ogun State Chapter has strongly called on the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to take immediate action against 32 FM Ibadan for its broadcast of explicit sexual content.

The video of a recent broadcast by 32 FM, 94.9 Ibadan, featuring explicit sexual scenes, has circulated widely across various media platforms. The content, where a female presenter showcases a male sex toy (dildo) and indulges in simulated sexual activities, is not only appalling but also goes against the ethical standards expected of broadcasting.

This incident raises critical questions:

1. Did the NBC thoroughly evaluate the station before granting a license?
2. Was due diligence exercised by those responsible for verifying the claims of the station’s owners/operators before its launch?
3. How well-acquainted are the station’s owners/operators with the local traditions, cultures, and societal norms of its audience?
4. What is the level of professionalism and experience within the management and staff of the station?

The broadcast is a reprehensible violation of moral values and ethical principles, directly contradicting the social objectives of broadcasting. The female presenter’s actions portray a disturbing lack of decency.

The blatant disregard for NBC CODE 1.13.6, which explicitly prohibits obscene, indecent, vulgar language, lewd and profane expression, necessitates a thorough investigation into the roles of producers, supervisors, and managers involved in the broadcast.

SNB Ogun State Chapter sincerely hopes that the NBC will take decisive action to preserve the integrity of the broadcasting industry and safeguard society from the encroachment of indecency. The deliberate violation of Code 3.8.1a, which prohibits explicit content, should not be treated lightly.
