Rivers Assembly overrides Governor to pass Service Commission Bill
The Rivers State House of Assembly has overruled the Governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara to enact the Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA) Service Commission Law.
The House took the decision today after convening an impromptu sitting.
However this is not the first time this is happening as the Assembly overrode the governor to pass four bills into law earlier in January this year.

This was after the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, read four letters addressed to him by the governor wherein he declined his assent to the four new bills which had been sent to him for assent.
The House passed the bills based on Section 100, Subsection 5 of the 1999 constitution as amended, to say that the assent of the governor was not required for the passage of some certain bills into law.
The section states that “where the Governor withholds assent and the bill is again passed by two-thirds majority, the bill shall become a law and the assent of the Governor shall not be required”.
