Political Storm in Oyo: Olubadan, Ajimobi Deny Impeachment Plot Amid Fayose’s Counter-Allegations

A swirling political controversy has engulfed Oyo State as key figures rush to deny involvement in an alleged plot to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde, while former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose doubles down on explosive counter-claims.

Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the revered Olubadan of Ibadanland, has forcefully rejected suggestions linking him to moves against Governor Makinde. Through his media aide Chief Adeola Oloko, the monarch labeled the claims “false, misleading, and baseless.”

In a pointed statement, Ladoja emphasized the constitutional impossibility of his involvement: “It is illogical to suggest that a traditional ruler could have the constitutional authority to remove a sitting governor.” He warned against dragging the Olubadan throne into partisan disputes, reaffirming his commitment to institutional neutrality.

Former First Lady Florence Ajimobi has similarly fired back, calling allegations of her participation in impeachment meetings “entirely false, baseless, and a deliberate act of disinformation.”

The ambassador-designate to Austria denied convening or attending any Lagos meetings aimed at destabilizing the Oyo government, describing the claims as politically motivated attacks on her reputation. She noted that other lawmakers, including Hon. Gbenga Oyekola and Deputy Speaker Hon. Abiodun Mohammed Fadeyi, have issued matching denials.

While denials mount, former Governor Ayo Fayose insists Makinde is actively plotting to remove Ladoja. In a series of 𝕏 posts, Fayose alleges the governor plans to query the monarch for partisanship—starting with accusations over a missed coronation ceremony.

“Those who are still in doubt about Governor Seyi Makinde’s plot to remove the Olubadan should just keep their fingers crossed,” Fayose warned, framing the current impeachment allegations against Ladoja as groundwork for the monarch’s ouster.

The conflicting narratives have plunged Oyo State into uncertainty, with traditional institutions, political dynasties, and rival camps trading accusations in an escalating war of words.
