Presidential hopeful Peter Obi has officially exited the African Democratic Congress, raising fresh questions about Nigeria’s political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a reflective statement, the former Anambra governor blamed a “toxic political environment” marked by internal crises, legal battles, and external interference—issues he says are undermining genuine nation-building efforts.

Why Obi Left

Obi clarified that his decision was not personal, maintaining respect for party leaders like David Mark and Atiku Abubakar.
Instead, he pointed to recurring patterns of division, suspicion, and destabilization within party structures.

“Politics should be about service, not control and exclusion,” Obi stressed.
