Oyo 2027: PDP Candidate, Accord Aspirant Lead Hundreds of Supporters to APC
The political landscape in Oyo State has recorded another realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ibadan North-East State Constituency II, Hammed Taoreed Ademola, and Accord aspirant Adedapo Ojo have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside hundreds of supporters.
The two politicians formally declared for the APC at an event held at a private facility along Old Ife Road, Ibadan, on Friday, October 2.
The development brings new political figures and supporters into the APC’s Oyo State structure as parties prepare for the next electoral cycle.

Hon. Hammed Taoreed Ademola
Why Ademola abandoned the PDP ticket
Ademola, popularly known as Lucky, said his decision to leave the PDP followed an assessment of the political situation ahead of the 2027 elections.
He argued that the APC offered a stronger platform for his political ambitions and expressed confidence in its prospects.
“I did my due diligence and I came to realise that any ticket outside the APC is a mere tissue paper which cannot take a candidate anywhere in 2027,” he said.
Ademola added that he and his supporters were joining the party with a commitment to contribute to its activities and Nigeria’s development.
The number of supporters who formally joined was described in the source report as being in the hundreds, without a confirmed numerical breakdown.
Ojo says Accord effort was unproductive
Ojo, who had sought the Accord ticket for the same constituency, also explained his decision to join the APC.
He said he had initially hoped to help establish Accord as a credible political alternative in Oyo State but later reconsidered his position.
“We thought about making Accord a credible alternative in the state, but we later realised that the APC was ahead of other parties by far,” he said.
Ojo described the effort as unproductive and said he had decided to align with the APC ahead of the elections.
His comments reflect his personal assessment of the political environment rather than an independently established measure of the parties’ electoral strength.
Oyo APC promises equal opportunities
Receiving the new members, Oyo State APC Chairman, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, assured them that they would have equal opportunities within the party.
He urged the defectors to begin working towards the success of APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
Also present was the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, who pledged fairness to party members and the different zones of Oyo State if elected.
Alli outlined several proposed policies, including regular payment of workers’ salaries and pensions, improved working conditions and training for public servants, as well as more balanced infrastructure development.
Alli outlines proposed healthcare and ICT plans
Among the commitments announced by Alli was a plan to establish an ICT hub in Ibadan within the first six months of his administration, if elected.
He said similar facilities would be extended to Oke-Ogun, Ogbomoso, Oyo and Ibarapa before January 2029.
He also promised that each of Oyo State’s 33 local government areas would have a properly staffed and equipped general hospital to provide basic healthcare.
The APC candidate further pledged that no zone would be excluded from the distribution of infrastructure and public amenities.
These are campaign commitments, and their implementation would depend on the outcome of the election and the eventual administration’s decisions.
Other party figures at the reception included APC deputy governorship candidate Hon. Adesoji Adedeji and Oyo South Senatorial candidate Hon. Aderemi Oseni.

Political positioning ahead of 2027
The defections add to the political activity taking place across Oyo State as parties work to attract candidates, members and grassroots supporters before the 2027 polls.
For the APC, the arrival of Ademola, Ojo and their supporters provides an opportunity to expand its local political network.
For voters in Ibadan North-East Constituency II and across the state, the coming months will bring closer scrutiny of party platforms, candidate commitments and proposed approaches to governance.
The immediate next step will be the integration of the new members into the APC and their participation in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
