Osun Governor Deposes Monarch Jailed In US Over Fraud Conviction

Ademola Adeleke has officially removed Oba Joseph Oloyede as the Apetumodu of Ipetumodu after the monarch’s conviction in the United States for tax fraud and money laundering.

According to the Osun State Government, the decision followed the receipt of a Certified True Copy of the judgment from an Ohio court, where the traditional ruler reportedly pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 56 months in prison. The government said the conviction brought the royal institution into disrepute and made the deposition necessary to protect the integrity of the throne.

The stool of Apetumodu has now been declared vacant, with the state set to begin the process of selecting a new monarch. Governor Adeleke also urged residents of Ipetumodu to remain peaceful as the transition process begins.
