Osun Election: Adeleke Wins Second Term as Davido Celebrates Uncle’s Victory
Governor Ademola Adeleke has been re-elected as governor of Osun State after defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.
The result was declared early Sunday at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation centre in Osogbo by the Returning Officer, Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti.
Adeleke won in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji carried 11.
Adeleke secures second term
The victory gives Adeleke another four years in office and marks a significant political achievement after he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which he won the governorship in 2022, for the Accord Party in December 2025.
His re-election also means Adeleke successfully overcame the challenge of defending his administration under a new political platform.
The election featured 15 political parties and followed months of intense campaigning, political mobilisation and heightened security across the state.
According to the figures announced by INEC, 1,010,684 voters were accredited, while 1,005,800 votes were cast. Of those votes, 985,079 were recorded as valid.

One of the most visible celebrations came from Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, who played an active role in his uncle’s campaign.
Davido watched the final stages of the results announcement and celebrated visibly when Adeleke was declared the winner.
In a post on X, the singer wrote: “WE DID IT UNC!!!”, alongside a video capturing his reaction.
Davido had served as Chairman of the Imole Youth Mobilisation Campaign Council and was heavily involved in grassroots mobilisation during the campaign.
He participated in rallies, used his large social media following to encourage voter participation and urged supporters to remain vigilant throughout the electoral process.
In the days leading up to the election, the singer also called for a peaceful poll and encouraged voters to protect their votes.
Jubilation across Osun
Celebrations broke out in several parts of the state following the declaration, with particularly large gatherings reported in Osogbo, the state capital, and Ede, Adeleke’s hometown.
Supporters gathered around the INEC collation centre in Osogbo, singing and dancing as the final result was announced.
In Ede, crowds also gathered around the governor’s residence to celebrate his return for another term.
The scenes echoed the celebrations that followed Adeleke’s first election victory in 2022.
Accord campaign welcomes result
The result was also welcomed by the Imole Campaign Council, with its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, describing the outcome as “the Lord’s doing” and a reflection of the will of Osun voters.
Olajengbesi said the result demonstrated that Adeleke remained the preferred choice of the electorate and argued that the governor’s performance had earned him a renewed mandate.
He also alleged that Adeleke faced intimidation and harassment during the election period, while praising supporters for remaining committed to the campaign.
