The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the suspension of Rauf Aregbesola, former governor of the state, pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings against him.
The decision follows a resolution by the Ilesa East Local Government Executive Committee, which recommended disciplinary action against Aregbesola for anti-party activities.
Allegations Against Aregbesola
The Osun APC Executive Committee, in a resolution addressed to the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, outlined the accusations against Aregbesola:
- Public criticism of party leaders, including President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
- Factionalizing the party by forming splinter groups.
- Collaboration with opposition parties to destabilize the APC in Osun State.

Due Process and Response Request
The State APC has constituted a Disciplinary Committee to investigate the allegations thoroughly. The committee has written to Aregbesola, requesting a formal response in line with the party’s constitution, to ensure due process.
An anonymous member of the Ilesa East Executive disclosed that the decision to suspend Aregbesola came after careful review of the allegations. The APC leadership aims to restore party discipline and deter other members from engaging in activities that could undermine the party.
Awaiting Aregbesola’s Response
As of the time of this report, Aregbesola has not issued any public statement regarding his suspension, leaving room for speculation on the potential fallout from this development.
