One Dead, Five Injured as Another Building Collapses in Lagos
In a tragic incident, a mosque located on Yusuf Street, off Ladipo Road, Papa Ajao, Mushin, Lagos, collapsed while prayer was ongoing, leaving one person dead and five others injured.
The Lagos Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded to the scene and carried out a rescue operation.Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed that five persons were rescued and one dead body was recovered from the collapsed mosque.
The incident comes on the heels of recent efforts by the Lagos State government to reduce the incidents of building collapses by pulling down structures that fail the integrity test.
Building collapses have been a recurring issue in Lagos, with several incidents reported in recent years.
The state government has been working to address the problem by enforcing stricter building regulations and conducting regular inspections of structures.
