NTTF Unveils Rising Stars for 2025 ITTF Africa Hopes Challenge After Intense National Selection in Lagos

Eight young talents will fly Nigeria’s flag in July as the future of African table tennis begins to take shape.

After a week of skill-sharpening drills, strategic mentorship, and a fiercely competitive tournament, the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) has officially selected eight promising cadet players to represent the nation at the prestigious 2025 ITTF Africa Hopes Week and Challenge, set to take place in Lagos this July.

Held at the National Training Centre, National Stadium, Lagos, from April 2–7, the National Hopes Week featured 25 U-12 athletes drawn from across the country, all eager to earn their place on Team Nigeria.

Backed by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and ITTF Africa, the program wasn’t just about competition—it was a transformational platform designed to nurture the next generation of African champions through hands-on technical training, mental development, and match exposure.

Meet the Chosen Ones: Team Nigeria’s Fab Eight

Following the culminating tournament, four boys and four girls emerged as Nigeria’s representatives for the continental showdown:

• Samson Joshua (Kogi) – Champion

• Umar Ayoola (Oyo) – Runner-up

• Juwon Ogunshakin (Lagos)

• Habib Adebayo (Lagos)

🏓 Girls’ Team

• Elizabeth Emelike (Abia) – Champion

• Deborah Faleye (Edo) – Runner-up

• Semilore Owoiya (Lagos)

• Emmanuella Ahaibu (Lagos)

🏆 Elizabeth Emelike, who dominated the girls’ singles with a 4–1 victory, was thrilled by the experience:

“The training helped me improve my serves, topspin, footwork, and receiving techniques. I feel happy and great. I want to become a champion in all my future tournaments.”

🔥 Samson Joshua, who took the boys’ title after a 4–2 win over Ayoola, believes this is just the beginning:

“I’m grateful to my coach and God. My forehand topspin was my strength in the finals. This win gives me confidence to do more.”
