Nollywood Star Alexx Ekubo Dies At 40 After Reported Battle With Kidney Cancer

The Nigerian entertainment industry is mourning the tragic loss of celebrated Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, who reportedly passed away at the age of 40 after battling kidney cancer.

According to sources within Nollywood, the actor was rushed to the hospital on Monday and later placed on life support before he died on Tuesday afternoon. His death comes months after fans raised concerns over his prolonged absence from social media and public appearances.

Born on April 10, 1986, Alexx Ekubo rose to fame after finishing as first runner-up at the 2010 Mr Nigeria contest. The Abia State-born actor became one of Nollywood’s most recognisable faces, starring in blockbuster films such as Weekend Getaway, Omo Ghetto: The Saga and A Sunday Affair.

Beyond acting, Ekubo was admired for his charity work, youth empowerment efforts, and influence across African entertainment. In 2020, he was recognised among the “Most Influential People of African Descent Under 40” by the United Nations.
