Nigeria’s security leadership has taken a dramatic turn as Kayode Egbetokun resigns as Inspector-General of Police (IGP), with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu swiftly appointing Tunji Disu as Acting IGP.

According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Egbetokun stepped down citing pressing family considerations. Tinubu praised his “decades of distinguished service” and commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s internal security framework.

Now, all eyes turn to Disu — a seasoned officer and former head of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos — as he takes charge during a critical security period. The President is expected to seek formal confirmation through the Nigeria Police Council and Senate.
