Police Arraign Hon. Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh for Assault on Bolt Driver
IGP Egbetokun Reaffirms Commitment to Upholding Law and Justice
The Nigeria Police Force has officially prosecuted Hon. Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh following the assault on a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, which occurred on the night of October 27, 2024. The Special Investigation Unit and the Legal Section of the Force concluded their investigation into the incident and filed charges against Ikwechegh on October 30, 2024.

The case was brought before the Kuje Magistrate Court, where Ikwechegh faces charges including:
- Abuse of Office
- Criminal Intimidation
- Criminal Force and Assault
These charges are in line with Sections 397(b) and 265 of the Penal Code Act.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, had earlier directed a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served, demonstrating the Police Force’s commitment to promoting human dignity and accountability in Nigeria.
In a statement, IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the Police Force’s dedication to upholding the rule of law, emphasizing that no one is above the law. He assured the public that the Police remain steadfast in ensuring that justice is delivered through proper legal channels, strengthening public confidence in the nation’s law enforcement system.
