NBA & FIBA Bring Basketball Without Borders to East Africa for the First Time – Rwanda Set to Host Landmark 2025 Camp
The National Basketball Association (NBA) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) have announced a historic milestone: the 21st edition of Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Africa will take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from Saturday, August 23 to Tuesday, August 26, 2025. This marks the first-ever time the global basketball development and community outreach program will be held in East Africa, after successful editions in Angola, Egypt, Senegal, and South Africa.
The camp, hosted at the Petit Stade, will unite 60 of Africa’s top male and female basketball prospects aged 18 and under, giving them the rare opportunity to train with and learn directly from NBA, WNBA, and FIBA players, legends, and coaches. The program will also focus on life skills, leadership development, and community responsibility, ensuring participants grow both on and off the court.
A Platform for Africa’s Future Stars
“This camp continues to provide a platform for Africa’s brightest basketball talents to sharpen their skills and aspire to reach the sport’s highest levels,” said NBA Africa CEO Clare Akamanzi. “Bringing it to East Africa during such a vibrant time for the game in the region is truly exciting.”
FIBA’s Head of Players Unit, Kimberley Gaucher, highlighted Rwanda’s rapid rise as a basketball hub:
“Rwanda has cemented its place in African basketball, hosting major tournaments from the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Pre-Qualifiers to the Basketball Africa League Playoffs and Finals. Holding BWB Africa here only strengthens that legacy.”
