Lagos Court Rules Artists and Promoter Have No Case to Answer
In a major turn of events, a Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos State, has officially cleared Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Primeboy, and Opere Babatunde of any involvement in the tragic and controversial death of Nigerian singer Mohbad. The verdict, delivered on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, by Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje, was based on the legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Court Finds No Evidence Against Marley, Larry, and Others
According to the court’s decision, Azeez Fashola (Naira Marley), Samson Balogun Eletu (Sam Larry), Owodunni Ibrahim (Primeboy), and Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde, have been fully absolved and acquitted. The ruling cited findings from police investigations and submitted evidence, which confirmed that the four men had no hand in Mohbad’s untimely death and therefore have no case to answer.
“Based on the police investigation and the evidence presented, the court finds no involvement of the accused individuals in the death of Mohbad,” said Magistrate Kubenje.
Who’s Still Facing Charges?
While these four men have been cleared, the DPP’s advice implicated two individuals:
- Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who treated Mohbad before his death
- Ayobami Sadiq, a friend of the late singer
Both are facing charges of reckless and negligent conduct in violation of Section 251(e) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The Lagos State Commissioner of Justice has announced plans to prosecute the duo in connection with their alleged mismanagement of Mohbad’s medical care, which reportedly led to his tragic passing on September 12, 2023.
