NAFDAC Busts ₦3bn Fake Malaria Drugs Ring in Lagos, Seizes 10 Million Counterfeit Doses

Nigeria’s drug watchdog, NAFDAC, has uncovered a massive counterfeit operation in Lagos, seizing over 10 million fake malaria medications and cosmetics worth about ₦3 billion at the Trade Fair Market. The raid, triggered by intelligence reports, exposed a three-storey warehouse disguised as a spare-parts depot storing banned and substandard drugs.

Officials say the seized items—including anti-malarials, antibiotics, and injections—could have endangered up to three million Nigerians if distributed. Four suspects were arrested, and investigations are ongoing as NAFDAC intensifies its nationwide crackdown on fake pharmaceuticals.

The agency urged distributors to buy only from accredited manufacturers and called on the public to report suspicious drug activities.
