Matthew Kuti Defends Title at 2nd Daniel Ford Elite Youth Table Tennis Championships
The stage is set for thrilling action as the 2nd Daniel Ford Elite Youth Table Tennis Invitational Championships kick off on Friday, December 20, at the prestigious Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium.
The tournament, organized by the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) and sponsored by UK-based Daniel Ford International, follows a successful two-day coaching clinic where players honed their skills in preparation for the highly anticipated event.
Matthew Kuti, 2023 African Games gold medalist, is the player to watch as he begins his quest to become the first back-to-back champion in the tournament’s history. Kuti, who has gained invaluable experience from international competitions such as the Africa Championships in Ethiopia, is in peak form and ready to face stiff competition.
Among his challengers are Muiz Adegoke and Abdulbasit Abdulfatai, who are eager to upset the defending champion. Kuti will also navigate a star-studded lineup in the U-19 event, ensuring two days of high-stakes, adrenaline-pumping matches.
Kuti, known for his tactical prowess, remains focused. “I’m ready for the challenge and prepared to bring my best game. This is about pushing limits and making history,” he said.

National coach Dotun Omoniyi believes the recent coaching clinic has leveled the playing field, making this year’s tournament even more competitive. “These players are not holding back. They’re determined to prove themselves and humble their opponents,” Omoniyi said.
