Life Imprisonment for Bishop Feyi Daniel: Lagos Court Rules on Church Member’s Rape
In a significant legal decision, Lagos High Court sentenced Bishop Feyiropo Daniels, the founder of “I Reign Christian Ministry,” to life imprisonment for the rape of a church member. The judgment, delivered by Justice Rahman Oshodi, also included a 3-year sentence for the sexual assault of two other members, to be served concurrently.
The court found Bishop Daniels guilty of sexual offenses committed within the Ikota Villa Estate in Lekki, Lagos, in June 2020. Despite pleading not guilty, the judge emphasized the credibility of the complainant’s testimony and the consistency of other witnesses.
Justice Oshodi ordered the registration of Bishop Daniels’ name in the Sexual Offenders Register maintained by the Lagos State Government. The verdict signifies a significant legal stance against sexual offenses, reflecting the court’s commitment to justice.
Last year, on April 17, Bishop Daniels faced charges related to sexual intercourse with two church members. Although acquitted of one count due to insufficient evidence, the court’s decision on the rape charge reinforces the severity of the offense.

The court mandated that Bishop Daniels serve his sentence at the Kirikiri Maximum Facility, where he is presently detained. The judgment underscores the court’s recognition of the abuse of power and position, stating that “the cleric used his dominant character and position to sexually violate two members of his church.”
While the legal proceedings focused on specific incidents, it is essential to note that the judgment sends a broader message about the consequences of sexual misconduct, particularly when committed by individuals in positions of authority.
