Lagos State Signs Landmark Agreement for New Green Line Metro Project
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a historic step forward in the state’s transportation infrastructure with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Lagos State, the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC). This agreement will bring the ambitious 68km Green Line Metro project to life, connecting the Lekki Free Zone to Marina, and integrating with the existing Blue Line.

The new Green Line is set to revolutionize public transport in Lagos, serving key areas such as Victoria Island, Lekki, and Ajah, with an initial capacity of over 500,000 passengers daily, projected to grow to more than a million over time. The project, led by MOFI and CHEC, will play a crucial role in transforming the transport landscape of Lagos, making travel faster and more efficient.
This initiative is part of the state’s broader Strategic Transport Masterplan, which already includes the Blue and Red Line rail services. Sanwo-Olu also highlighted the success of the Blue Line, which has served 2 million passengers in just one year. Recent improvements have increased the number of daily trips from 54 to 72, cutting travel time between Marina and Mile 2 significantly.
