Labour Unions Issue 14-Day Ultimatum To FG Over Non-Implementation Of Agreements

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have jointly issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government over what they term as the non-implementation of the 16-point agreement both parties reached after the removal of petrol subsidy.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the leaders of both unions, Joe Ajaero and Festus Usifo stating that the organised labour expresses sadness that despite the passage of time, “the majority of these crucial agreements remain unmet or negligibly addressed, indicating a blatant disregard for the principles of good faith, welfare and rights of Nigerian workers and Nigerians.”

So due to this development, the unions are giving the Federal Government 14 days starting from February 9, to uphold its part of the understanding with the labour unions.

The labour unions said that the agreements which were reached with the Federal Government were focused on addressing the massive suffering and the general harsh socioeconomic consequences of the ill-conceived and ill-executed IMF/World Bank induced hike in the price of PMS and the Devaluation of the Naira.

It said that the dual policies have had dire economic consequences for the masses and workers of Nigeria.
