The project, running just 17 minutes, is short but emotionally potent—filled with vulnerability, groove, wit, and a daring creative stretch from the Flyboy Inc. CEO.
From the playful confidence of “Black Girl Magic” to the emotional depth of “Al Jannah,” Kizz Daniel demonstrates range and maturity, delivering not just another Afrobeat collection but an experience. The lead single, Black Girl Magic, mixes cheeky humor—“Make I be your Joseph knack you like carpenter”—with cultural affirmations, while hinting at a potential all-star remix featuring 17 Nigerian artists, including BNXN and Reekado Banks, a move poised to go viral in Afrobeats circles.
But Lemon Chase is more than witty lines and radio-ready beats. It’s a memoir in melody, born from personal loss and unexpected resilience. Kizz Daniel revealed that the project was initially delayed from November 2024 due to a family tragedy, and that he lost over 600 unreleased songs when his workstation crashed. Yet, in his own words, “Life threw the damn lemon, and God made lemonade with it.” Hence, the title: Lemon Chase.
“Al Jannah,” the final song on the EP, was recorded in a moment of synchronicity. As Kizz wrapped up the track, a check-in call from ODUMODUBLVCK led to an impromptu verse. Soon after, a friend in the UK suggested: “Fi Bella si” (put Bella on it), referring to Bella Shmurda, who later added his emotional touch. Produced by AyZed, the song transforms Afrobeat into a soulful tribute to grief and resilience.
The project also features standout collaborations with Angelique Kidjo, Zlatan, and Johnny Drille, blending genres and generations. Tracks like Secure and Peace I Chose (featuring Runtown) tackle themes of self-reflection, healing, and forward motion, distinguishing this EP from the love-and-luxury clichés of mainstream Afrobeat.
