Governor of Kogi State Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo,

In a significant ruling, the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has affirmed the victory of Usman Ododo as the Governor of Kogi State. The tribunal, led by Justice Ado Birnin-Kudu, dismissed the petition filed by Muritala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), upholding the election of Ododo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The three-member tribunal held that the SDP and its governorship candidate, Murtala Ajaka, failed to provide sufficient evidence to support their allegations against the respondents. Justice Birnin-Kudu stated that the election was conducted in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier declared Ododo as the winner of the Kogi governorship election held on November 11, 2023. Ododo secured 446,237 votes, defeating Ajaka, who came second with 259,052 votes, and Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 46,362 votes.

This ruling solidifies Ododo’s position as the rightful Governor of Kogi State and marks a significant victory for the APC in the state’s political landscape.
