The winners of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations set to happen in Ivory Coast will receive a record seven million dollars. This is according to a statement by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) statement released today.
This prize money is 40 per cent more than what the last winners of AFCON in person of Senegal pocketed for winning the last edition, in Cameroon two years ago.
In addition, the runners-up will receive four million dollars while losing semi-finalists get $2.5 million each and quarter-finalists 1.3 million each.
24 african countries will be in Ivory Coast from January 13th competing for the most coveted football trophy on the continent.
The tournament will begin with two-time champions Ivory Coast playing Guinea-Bissau as they have gone without a win in three previous appearances, at the 60,000-seat Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
