Nigeria’s legal landscape has taken a dramatic turn as the Federal Government files a fresh 12-count criminal charge against senior lawyer Mike Ozekhome, barely 24 hours after withdrawing an earlier three-count case initiated by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The new charge, dated February 24, 2026, and signed by Director of Public Prosecution Rotimi Oyedepo, was filed at the FCT High Court in Abuja. Ozekhome and Ponfa Useni (also known as Tali Shani) are accused of conspiracy, forgery, personation, and unlawful possession of property linked to a UK address — 79 Randall Avenue, London NW2.

According to prosecutors, the defendants allegedly procured and used a false Nigerian passport to support ownership claims to the UK property, alongside other related offences under the Penal Code Law 2009. The charges also reference the late Jeremiah Useni as part of the alleged conspiracy.

The case now sets the stage for a high-profile legal battle that could test the boundaries of forgery laws, cross-border property claims, and Nigeria’s anti-corruption framework.
