FirstBank/SOF Memoir Cup Kicks Off Nationwide to Discover Nigeria’s Next Football Stars

Boom RadioNG | June 26, 2026

The inaugural FirstBank/Samuel Okwaraji Foundation (SOF) National Secondary Schools Football Championship, known as the Memoir Cup, has officially kicked off across Nigeria, marking a major boost for grassroots football development.

The competition will be held in three stages—state qualifiers, zonal playoffs, and the national finals—where champions from all 36 states and the FCT will compete for the coveted title.

Speaking on the tournament, Steering Committee Chairman Senator Osita Izunaso said the championship honours the legacy of late Super Eagles hero Samuel Okwaraji while creating a platform to discover and nurture young football talents nationwide.

Organised in partnership with FirstBank, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF), the Memoir Cup is expected to become an annual fixture aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s football talent pipeline from the grassroots.
