Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s National Team, the Flamingos, have officially touched down in Casablanca, Morocco, ahead of the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, marking the start of their quest for world football glory.
The team departed Abuja on Wednesday morning aboard a Royal Air Maroc flight and arrived safely at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca at 11:28 a.m. Nigerian time.
Upon arrival, the young stars were met with an inspiring surprise — a chance encounter with former Super Eagles defender Taribo West, who was en route to France. The ex-international, known for his fiery passion and trademark braids, took time to encourage the girls.
“Play with discipline, unity, and pride. You’re not just representing yourselves — you’re representing Nigeria,” he told them, sparking smiles and applause from the players and officials.

Flamingos Settle in Casablanca Base
The Flamingos have since settled comfortably into their Ibis Hotel base in Casablanca. Spirits are high as the 2022 World Cup bronze medallists continue their countdown to the tournament kickoff.
To shake off travel fatigue and adapt to Morocco’s climate, the team held a light recovery session on Wednesday evening focused on ball movement, coordination, and recovery drills.
Team officials confirmed that full training sessions will resume in the coming days before the squad relocates to Rabat, the host city for the tournament proper.
Nigeria Drawn in Tough Group D
The Flamingos have been drawn in Group D, where they’ll face Canada, France, and Samoa — a challenging but exciting lineup that will test the team’s resilience and tactical strength.
Their opening fixture is set for Sunday, October 19, and the team is heading into the tournament with massive momentum.
