Fencing World Cup 2024: US, Hong Kong, Egypt, and More Set to Compete in Lagos
Top fencing nations, including the United States, Hong Kong, and Egypt, are gearing up to compete in the 2024 Men’s Fencing World Cup, taking place on December 14-15 in Lagos, Nigeria.
This prestigious tournament will be hosted by Charterhouse Lagos, marking a significant milestone as Nigeria becomes the first Sub-Saharan African country to host the Fencing World Cup, following North African nations like Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia.Countries confirmed to participate in this two-day championship include Ghana, Senegal, Greece, Angola, Togo, Benin Republic, and the host nation, Nigeria.
According to Adeyinka Samuel, President of the Nigeria Fencing Federation, this event will not only allow Nigerian fencers to compete against international athletes but also position Nigeria as a leading fencing nation in Africa.“We are thrilled to host this important event and grateful to Charterhouse Lagos for their support.
This is a rare opportunity for any African country, and we are excited to provide our fencers with the chance to experience top-class competition at home,” Samuel stated.The tournament will also serve as a point-earning event for local players, contributing to their preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers.

John Todd, Director of Education at Charterhouse Lagos, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “Partnering with the Nigeria Fencing Federation is a long-term commitment that we believe will help grow the sport in Nigeria. We are dedicated to supporting the development of fencing and hope to see more young Nigerians embrace this exciting sport.”
For Nigeria’s teenage fencers, Shemilore Fashola and Wisdom Okanlawon, this tournament presents a unique opportunity to compete against some of the world’s finest fencers.
