Federal Government Addresses Oil Transporters’ Concerns to Ensure Smooth Petroleum Product Distribution

The Federal Government, led by Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), has taken proactive steps to tackle the challenges faced by oil transporters and distributors. In a meeting held in Abuja with key stakeholders from the downstream sector, including NARTO, PTD, IPMAN, and NUPENG, Minister Lokpobiri assured them of sustained engagement to address their concerns amidst rising operational costs.

NARTO’s threat to suspend nationwide petroleum product lifting and initiate a strike due to exorbitant operational costs prompted the meeting. High diesel costs, exceeding N1,300 per liter, for truck fueling led to fuel scarcity and long queues at stations, even affecting NNPC Ltd. retail outlets.

Minister Lokpobiri lauded the transporters’ patriotism and committed the government to finding commercial solutions. Following the meeting, NARTO President Yusuf Othman expressed satisfaction, stating that the government acknowledged their concerns and pledged support.
