Ex-Aviation Minister’s Brother Arrested in N8bn Corruption Probe: Sirika Family Ties Under Scrutiny
A cloud of suspicion hangs over the former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika, as his younger brother faces arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Abubakar Sirika, a civil servant, is accused of receiving N8 billion worth of aviation contracts through his company Engirios Nigeria Limited, allegedly awarded by his own brother while in office.
The EFCC investigation raises concerns about potential abuse of power and conflict of interest. Sources allege that Abubakar, despite being a Deputy Director in the Ministry of Water Resources, received contracts for projects like building a terminal in Katsina Airport and procuring aircraft for the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology.
Adding to the controversy, the EFCC claims no work has been done on any of the contracted projects despite billions paid out. Abubakar is currently in custody, assisting the investigation into financial activities within the ministry during his brother’s tenure.
