The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially unveiled Éric Sékou Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles. In a ceremony held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, the NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, expressed confidence in Chelle’s ability to transform the team’s fortunes and lead them to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Chelle, a former Mali international, steps into the role with a two-year contract, extendable by another year if he secures World Cup qualification. The Franco-Malian tactician, known for his attacking football philosophy, brings with him three assistants and a clear vision to reinvigorate one of Africa’s most iconic football teams.

“I am deeply honored to coach the Super Eagles. This is a dream job, and I am committed to giving my best. Football is about scoring goals, and I intend to implement an attacking style that matches the expectations of Nigerians,” Chelle stated during the unveiling.

The NFF has assured full support for Chelle, with Gusau highlighting the coach’s passion and determination as key qualities for success. “We see in him the right attitude and spirit to take the Super Eagles to new heights,” Gusau said.

Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, also pledged governmental backing to ensure Chelle has the resources needed to excel. “Football unites Nigerians, and we are committed to supporting the NFF in this endeavor,” he said.

Chelle’s appointment follows a legacy of notable coaches who have led the Super Eagles, including Clemens Westerhof, Stephen Keshi, and Gernot Rohr. As the team prepares for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Chelle’s leadership is expected to usher in a new era of success for Nigerian football.
