EFCC Chair Fires Back: ‘Corruption Has No Party – We’ll Investigate Everyone’
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reaffirmed its non-partisan stance, insisting that corruption investigations in Nigeria will remain blind to political affiliations.
Reacting to recent accusations from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), EFCC Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede stressed that no politician—whether from the ruling party or the opposition—would be shielded from scrutiny.
“If I am not condemned for investigating both former and serving ruling party governors and ministers, I should not be condemned for also investigating opposition figures,” Olukoyede declared.
ADC’s Allegations and EFCC’s Response
The ADC recently claimed that the EFCC had issued politically motivated summons to opposition members, suggesting these cases were not based on new evidence but rather on shifting political allegiances.
The EFCC dismissed these claims as “self-serving, diversionary, and narrow-minded,” noting that all corruption allegations deserve investigation—regardless of timing or political season.
Olukoyede pointed out that records from Nigerian courts show politicians across party lines facing charges for economic and financial crimes, while several ruling party members are also under active investigation.
“Fraud is fraud. Corruption is corruption. There is no sacred cow, protected interest, or partisan consideration,” he said.

Zero Tolerance, No Matter the Provocation
The EFCC emphasized that its work is backed by taxpayer funds—not party politics—and urged political parties to focus on governance instead of attempting to discredit the commission.
Olukoyede reiterated that immunity from EFCC scrutiny comes only through accountability and probity, not through political connections or public noise-making.
“The opposition figures the ADC is defending know in their hearts why they were invited. We will not be blackmailed into revealing discreet investigations,” he said.
The anti-graft body called on Nigerians to disregard political rhetoric aimed at destabilizing the nation, urging citizens to unite against the pillage of the national treasury.
