EFCC Arrests 21 Trucks Loaded with Smuggled Food and Non-Food Items in Borno

Operatives of the Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) made a significant breakthrough on Tuesday when they intercepted 21 trucks loaded with food and non-food items. The trucks were apprehended in a sting operation at major exit routes along Kalabiri/Gamboru Ngala and Bama roads in Borno State. This operation was part of the EFCC’s relentless efforts to combat smuggling activities and ensure food security in the country.

According to Mr. Dele Oyewale, the Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, the investigation revealed that the smuggled goods were cleverly concealed in the trucks, making them difficult to detect. The items were destined for neighboring countries such as N’djamena, Chad Republic, Central Africa Republic, and Cameroon, as indicated by the Waybills covering the goods.

The arrest of these trucks is a significant step toward curbing the activities of unscrupulous smugglers and addressing the issue of food insecurity in the country. The EFCC operatives displayed exceptional vigilance in identifying and intercepting these smuggled goods.
