Dangote Group Defends Refinery Operations Amid Accusations

Alhaji Aliko Dangote and his team have demonstrated their refinery’s fuel quality to the House of Representatives leadership, rejecting recent allegations against the company.

Lawmakers Tour Lekki Refinery

During a visit to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, and Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere witnessed firsthand the testing of diesel samples from Dangote’s refinery and other filling stations. The tests, conducted in the refinery’s laboratories, focused on sulphur content and flash points.

Test Results Highlight Fuel Quality Issues

The results showed significantly lower sulphur content and higher flash points in Dangote’s diesel compared to samples from other stations. These findings suggest substandard petroleum products are being imported and sold in Nigeria, causing damage to vehicles and engines.

Call for Comprehensive Investigation

Dangote urged the House to investigate fuel quality at filling stations nationwide and the standards of laboratories testing imported products. He emphasized the need for a level playing field, refuting claims of monopoly and asserting that his companies add value to local raw materials without hindering competition.

Addressing Monopoly Claims

Dangote clarified that his refinery did not receive incentives from the Federal Government or Lagos State, aside from purchasing land at market value. He stressed the importance of independent verification of fuel quality to protect consumers.
