Bruno Labbadia Appointed as the 37th Head Coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially appointed German tactician Bruno Labbadia as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s Senior Men National Team. This decision makes Labbadia the 37th individual to lead the team since its inception.
In an early Tuesday announcement, NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, confirmed the appointment, stating, “The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to appoint Mr. Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. The appointment is effective immediately.”
Labbadia, born on February 8, 1966, in Darmstadt, Germany, boasts an impressive career both as a player and a coach. During his playing days, he represented top-tier clubs like Hamburger SV, FC Kaiserslautern, Bayern Munich, and Werder Bremen, among others. Notably, he won the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich in 1994. Transitioning to coaching, Labbadia managed prominent clubs such as Hertha Berlin, VfB Stuttgart, VfL Wolfsburg, and Bayer Leverkusen. He holds a UEFA Pro License, highlighting his deep expertise in football management.

His immediate task is to prepare the three-time African champions for two crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches—against Benin Republic on September 7th in Uyo and Rwanda on September 10th in Kigali. These matches are vital as Nigeria seeks to secure its place in the upcoming tournament.
