ADC Unveils 2027 Governorship Candidates Across 28 States
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled its governorship candidates and running mates for the 2027 general elections, announcing its proposed tickets in 28 states across Nigeria.
The party released the list in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, and published on the party’s official X account on Friday evening.
The announcement marks a major step in the ADC’s preparations for the next general election, as the party positions itself to compete for executive offices across the federation.
The list includes former lawmakers, political leaders and familiar names from previous election cycles.

Former Labour Party Lagos State Governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour
Among the most prominent pairings is Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos in 2023, who will contest the 2027 election under the ADC alongside Gbadamosi Babatunde Olalere as his running mate.
In Delta State, the party has nominated Great Ogboru, a veteran politician and former governorship candidate, with Afiari Gloria as his running mate.
Another notable name is former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, who has been listed as the ADC’s governorship candidate in Kebbi State. He will contest alongside Zagi Musa Mohammed.

ADC fields candidates across key states
The party’s list stretches across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with candidates named in 28 states.
Other notable candidates include Senator Halliru Dauda Jika in Bauchi, Herman Iorwase Hembe in Benue and Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita in Katsina.
The ADC has also nominated Isa Mohammed Ashiru in Kaduna, Zakari Mohammed in Kwara, Manir Mohammad Daniya in Sokoto and Abubakar Umar Tutare in Taraba.
In Plateau State, the party’s ticket is led by Brigadier General John Sunday Sura, while Nkoyo Toyo is the governorship candidate in Cross River.
The nominations indicate the party’s intention to build a broad electoral presence ahead of 2027 rather than concentrate its campaign on only a handful of states.

A significant test for the ADC
The unveiling gives the ADC a clearer political structure as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace.
The party will now face the challenge of turning its nominations into competitive campaigns across the states where it has presented candidates.
For candidates with previous electoral experience, the 2027 contest will also provide an opportunity to build on existing political networks and test their appeal under a new platform.
Rhodes-Vivour’s return in Lagos and Ogboru’s nomination in Delta, for example, place two familiar political figures back into governorship contests, while Malami’s entry gives the Kebbi race an additional high-profile dimension.
What happens next?
The release of the candidates is only an early stage in the ADC’s 2027 campaign.
The party will still have to organise its structures, campaign across the states, communicate its policy agenda and convince voters that its candidates can provide an alternative to the established political parties.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, the ADC’s decision to unveil candidates across 28 states signals its intention to play a significant role in the next electoral cycle.
For voters, the growing list of candidates means the political choices ahead are beginning to take clearer shape. The coming months will show whether the ADC can translate its expanding field of candidates into genuine electoral momentum.
