Daily Trust Newspaper Faces Lawsuit for Fabricated LGBTQ+ Allegations in Samoa Agreement Coverage

The Nigerian government plans to take legal action against Daily Trust Newspaper for spreading false information and inciting public unrest regarding the Samoa Agreement.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced this during a joint press briefing in Abuja. The government aims to address the irresponsible reporting and statements made by certain media outlets and individuals, emphasizing the need to uphold the rule of law. Idris condemned Daily Trust for fabricating a story alleging that the government signed the Samoa Agreement to promote LGBTQ+ rights in Nigeria, highlighting the absence of such content in the agreement. He also criticized the newspaper for promoting misleading narratives in the past, including baseless accusations and fabricated stories.
