Governor Dapo Abiodun Appoints Tunde Onakoya as Ogun State Sports Ambassador

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has officially appointed Mr. Tunde Onakoya, the National Master of Chess and the current Guinness World Record holder for the longest Chess Marathon, as the Sports Ambassador for the state. The announcement was made during a meeting between Governor Abiodun and Mr. Onakoya at the governor’s office in Abeokuta. In recognition of Mr. Onakoya’s achievements, the governor also revealed plans to organize the State Chess Competition in honor of the newly appointed Sports Ambassador.

Impressed by Mr. Onakoya’s global accomplishments, Governor Abiodun commended his determination, resilience, and hard work. The governor acknowledged Mr. Onakoya’s inspiring story and his foundation, “Chess in Slums Africa,” which aims to uplift children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Governor Abiodun highlighted that Ogun State will host the upcoming National Sports Festival, where chess will be one of the featured games. In honor of Mr. Onakoya, the governor announced the launch of the Ogun State Chess Competition, which will span across the state, with Mr. Onakoya taking the lead in designing the competition.

Governor Abiodun emphasized that Mr. Onakoya’s journey mirrors the struggles faced by many Nigerian youths striving for success. He praised Mr. Onakoya for achieving greatness through hard work and integrity, positioning him as a role model for the state. The governor expressed his admiration for Mr. Onakoya’s commitment to success without resorting to dishonest means.
