Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has raised crucial concerns regarding the coastal (Lagos-Calabar) Superhighway Project. In a recent Twitter press release, he emphasized the need to address the pressing issue of numerous uncompleted roads across Nigeria, which pose significant hazards and security risks to citizens.

Obi expressed reservations about the timing and prioritization of the coastal superhighway, highlighting the prolonged construction of vital roads essential for economic growth and regional connectivity. He pointed out specific uncompleted roads across various zones, shedding light on the challenges posed by poor and unplanned funding.

With the Federal Ministry of Works’ 2024 capital budget and additional funding deemed insufficient for comprehensive road improvement, Obi questioned the wisdom of embarking on another monumental project that might take decades to complete. He emphasized the importance of fiscal discipline and the allocation of resources to repair and complete existing infrastructure, crucial for the well-being and safety of society.

In light of this, Obi urged the government to focus on prioritizing the urgent needs of the people and ensuring that investments serve the collective good of the nation. He emphasized the necessity of completing and rehabilitating existing infrastructure before embarking on colossal new projects that may not reach completion within the next 30 years.
