Social Media Influencer and self styled “Mommy of Lagos” Idris Okuneye also known as Bobrisky, has filed a notice of appeal challenging his conviction on a four-count charge of Naira abuse. In the appeal, Bobrisky’s lawyer is requesting the court to set aside the six-month imprisonment sentence imposed on him and replace it with a fine of N50,000 (Fifty Thousand Naira) for each count. The conviction was handed down by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on April 12, 2024.

EFCC Grills Bobrisky for Naira Abuse

Bobrisky argues that the trial court imposed the maximum sentence despite his lack of previous criminal convictions and the availability of options for a lesser punishment under the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA). The appellant also highlights his positive antecedents, including cooperating with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during the investigation.

The appeal seeks to address the alleged miscarriage of justice and urges the court to replace the imprisonment sentence with a fine of N50,000 on each count. Bobrisky’s legal team contends that the punishment imposed by the trial court is punitive and not in line with the mandatory provisions of the ACJA.
