EFCC Sets the Record Straight on Humanitarian Ministry Investigations

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is addressing the growing concerns and speculations surrounding its ongoing investigations into alleged financial misappropriation within the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.

Since the initiation of these investigations, past and suspended officials of the Humanitarian Ministry have been summoned by the Commission. As a result, recoveries amounting to N32.7 billion and $445,000 have been made thus far the EFCC announced.

Conducting discreet investigations, the EFCC also revealed that it had uncovered additional fraudulent activities related to Covid-19 funds, the World Bank loan, and the release of Abacha recovered loot intended for poverty alleviation programs. Several interdicted and suspended officials have been linked to these alleged financial malpractices.

The Commision emphasized that investigations are not focused solely on individuals but rather on a complex network of fraudulent practices within the system. The banks involved in the alleged fraud are also under investigation, with managing directors of the implicated banks providing valuable statements to investigators. Those found guilty will face appropriate prosecution. It is crucial to note that no one allegedly involved in the fraud has been cleared by the EFCC. The investigations are ongoing and progressing steadily.

The EFCC is urging the public to disregard any claims suggesting otherwise and to allow the it to complete its thorough investigations into these allegations.
