Nigerian armed forces have been fighting internal wars against insurgents and terrorists leading to the death of about 40,000 and displacement of more than 2 million citizens since 2009,

Fighting in parts of the North, especially the North-East has reduced drastically as these terrorists have been pushed back from territories they once controlled, but they still carry out occasional attacks, kidnappings, and raids in remote areas.
