“Discounted ‘Ounje Eko’ Food Markets Open Across Lagos: Governor Sanwo-Olu’s Initiative to Benefit Residents”

Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has initiated a groundbreaking effort to support the residents of Lagos with the launch of ‘Ounje Eko’ food markets. Effective from Sunday, March 17, 2024, these markets will offer a 25% discount on essential food items, including rice, beans, gari, bread, eggs, tomatoes, and pepper, across the five divisions of Lagos.

To ensure the equitable distribution of food items and prevent fraudulent activities, the initiative will introduce a voucher system during the pilot scheme. Independent payment solution providers and carefully selected food vendors will manage the process, while also providing real-time data for monitoring purposes.

In line with the commitment to transparency, the prices of the discounted food items have been clearly listed. For instance, a 5kg bag of rice will be available for N5,325, with 1kg priced at N1,065. Similarly, a 5kg bag of beans will be sold for N6,225, and 1kg for N1,245. The prices of other staple food items will also be accessible through various media outlets.

Residents will have access to these discounted food markets at 27 locations in Ikeja, six in Lagos Island, nine in Ikorodu, five in Epe, and 10 in Badagry divisions. Governor Sanwo-Olu encourages all Lagosians to cooperate with the operators, monitor the process, and provide feedback through official channels of the Lagos State Government.
