Nigeria Boosts Drug Production: 105 New Facilities Approved, Local Giants Take Charge!

Boom RadioNG | February 12, 2024

Nigeria’s drug manufacturing scene is booming! Despite multinational exits, NAFDAC has approved 105 new facilities, with 20 local producers investing $2 billion in WHO-compliant plants. This 12% increase shows Nigeria’s commitment to self-sufficiency.

Emzor Pharmaceuticals, partnering with Indian giants, will soon produce antimalarial APIs, while six other local companies plan diverse API and excipient manufacturing. NAFDAC’s capacity-building workshops are further accelerating progress.

Swiss Pharma’s recent WHO prequalification showcases the global recognition of Nigerian products, motivating other producers to follow suit.

NAFDAC remains optimistic, believing Nigeria can achieve self-sufficiency in quality medicines with the right policies and regulations. Their recent ML3 status and WHO prequalification of the Central Drug Control Laboratory demonstrate their commitment to creating a stable and well-regulated environment.
