Bill For Electoral Act Amendment Passes Second Reading In House Of Reps

A bill calling for the amendment of the 2022 Electoral Act has scaled second reading in the House of Representatives.

The bill sponsored by Honourable Francis Waive representing the Ughelli North/South/Udu federal constituency of Delta state, stated that an amendment of the law would would help the nation’s democracy.

He proposes that the general elections be conducted on the same day to save money and time for the country as well as prevent bandwagon effect and also seeks to make electronic transmission of results compulsory and punish persons who file frivolous petitions with heavy fines to reduce the number of cases that would end up in court.

Furthermore, He also called for the review of the voter register every ten years.
