Some African teams have relieved their coaches of their teams after their poor performances at the ongoing African Cup of Nations.

Ivory Coast coach’s Jean-Louis Gasset has been sacked after the team’s poor performance at AFCON.

The country’s football federation announced this today in a statement saying “The contracts of coach Jean-Louis Gasset and his assistant Ghislain Printant are terminated due to insufficient results,”.

The competition’s host won their first game at AFCON, beating Guinea-Bissau 2-0 on January 13 bbut lost 1-0 to Nigeria and 4-0 to equatorial Guinea on January 1th and 21st respectively which made them finish third in Group A.

Should they qualify, they will face Group B winners Cape Verde or the winner of Group C in the round of 16.

Also, the Ghana Football Association late Tuesday sacked Chris Hughton as head coach of the senior National team “with immediate effect”.

The FA said “The Executive Council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars,” following the Black Stars’ woeful performance and eventual exit from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

They lost to Cape Verde 2-1, played a 2-2 draw with Egypt and Mozambique which led to their early exit from the competition.

Subsequently, Tom Saintfiet has resigned as coach of The Gambia after they too suffered a group-stage exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Scorpions finished bottom of Group C after losing all three games, with a 3-0 defeat in the hands of defending champions, Senegal, 1-0 defeat from Guinea and finally a 3-2 defeat by Cameroon on Tuesday rounding off their campaign.
